A Local’s Guide To Breckenridge: Food + Bev

I’m going to be real with you- Breckenridge is in no way a foodie’s paradise. Restaurants fill up because of the amount of tourists the town gets and some are better than others. Read on for some quick notes on some of the places in town I frequent.

RMU, Rocky Mountain Underground

114/112 S Main St, Breckenridge, CO 80424

Probably the most popular bar in Breckenridge, Rocky Mountain Underground (RMU) is home to a skip shop, bike shop, bar, and grilled cheese window. They also make a surprisingly tasty lineup of craft cocktails and host the best bingo night in town.

Legends

215 S Ridge St, Breckenridge, CO 80424

This might be the only restaurant with bone marrow in town- but I could be wrong. The dark, moody space with just enough room to walk between tables is cozy and lively. It’s a popular spot in town, and for good reason, with solid food and beverage options.

The Carlin

200 N Main St, Breckenridge, CO 80424

The Carlin is home to the Tavern Underground as well as the Inn, which is home to four luxury hotel suites right in downtown Breckenridge. The best kept secret at The Carlin? The Hushpuppies.

Thai Chili 89 Thai Street Food

100 N Main St #204, Breckenridge, CO 80424

This Thai restaurant is up a set of stairs and may be easily be missed, but it’s the best Thai food in town.

Mom’s Baking Company

Entrance on Lincoln Ave, 100 N Main St, Breckenridge, CO 80424

We love Mom’s for their European inspired breakfast and lunch sandwiches, as well as the delectable pastries.

The Tavern Underground

200 N Main St, Breckenridge, CO 80424

This intimate up-scale pub is below The Carlin and is a great spot for a bit of a quieter date night in town. Their Dynamite Shrimp is in fact, dynamite, and they’ve got comfort foods like Buffalo Chicken Dip, Mac n Cheese, Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup, and a Cheesteak Sub.

Fatty’s Pizzeria

106 S Ridge St, Breckenridge, CO 80424

A Breckenridge staple, Fatty’s is a local’s favorite for a quick bite and to catch the latest sports event on television. Is it the most amazing pizza you’ve ever had? Definitely not. But, it’s consistently average, and we can applaud that.

Tin Plate Pizza

110 S Ridge St, Breckenridge, CO 80424

Right next to Fatty’s, Tin Plate Pizza features artisanal style pizza and aims to use as many Colorado-local ingredients as possible. Their pizza is better than Fatty’s (sorry Fatty’s, its the truth), and their Three Daughter’s Pizza is a great spot to grab a quick slice when you’re out and about.

Bird and Cow

113 S Ridge St, Breckenridge, CO 80424

Bird sandwiches, cow sandwiches, burgers, and flatbreads. The service has always been a little weird here in my experience, but the food has always been good. My go-to is the Asian Birdie with sauce on the side, and I rotate between the side of fries and side of coleslaw.

Clint’s Bakery & Coffee House

131 S Main St, Breckenridge, CO 80424

This coffeeshop and bakery along the main drag is also home to a sandwich shop in the back. Year-round we love their affogatos and cinnamon bun rolls. In the summer, they make a mean rhubarb pie.

Hearthstone

130 S Ridge St, Breckenridge, CO 80424

It won’t be a cheap dinner, but it’ll be a good dinner. Hearthstone is located in the old Kaiser House, and has a Colorado-ized American menu (think: blackberry elk, Colorado lamb, and bison short ribs). They don’t try to do anything too fancy with their food, so while it’s a nice dinner, it still feels and tastes homey.

Aurum

209 S Ridge St, Breckenridge, CO 80424

Three words: Parker. House. Rolls.

Enjoy!

Mountain View Coffee Bar

222 S Main St, Breckenridge, CO 80424

15. Mountain View Coffee

IMO the only thing Mountain View Coffee is good for is their iced chai, but that’s enough for me to add it to this list.

The Crown

215 S Main St, Breckenridge, CO 80424

People flock to the crown for their morning cup-o-joe and the line can sometimes be almost out the door. It’s not without good reason, though, as they also have a solid lineup of breakfast and lunch sandwiches that aren’t too fancy yet are packed with flavor.

Rootstalk

207 N Main St, Breckenridge, CO 80424

Rootstalk is home to a James Beard award-winning chef and it is good by Breckenridge standards, but if you’re visiting from a major city your meal here probably won’t be that transformative. This restaurant does get busy and it’s pretty hard to get in without a reservation.

Sancho Tacos & Tequilas

520 S Main St, Breckenridge, CO 80424

This won’t be your most authentic Mexican restaurant in town, but their margarita’s are fire and their pork belly taco is oh-so melt-in-your-mouth good.

BreckFast

500 S Main St Ste 1r, Breckenridge, CO 80424

It’s glutinous, it’s delicious, it’s BreckFast. They’ve got a large menu full of breakfast classics and some with their own twist, and in my opinion they are one of the only places in town whose pricing is good bang-for-your-buck.

Blue River Bistro

305 N Main St, Breckenridge, CO 80424

Local’s love Blue River Bistro- to celebrate, grab happy hour, or just because. It’s at the beginning (North) end of Main Street where there aren’t as many shops, so it’s not a place you’ll just happen upon while walking around.
